LIGHTING MATTERS
What does the course consist of and who and why will I benefit from taking this course?
- This is the first of a series of 21 Units explaining, in simple language and diagrams, the principles and technicalities of residential lighting design.
- It is aimed at architects, interior designers and property developers who wish to expand their knowledge portfolio and be able to do their own lighting design and specify their own chosen fittings.
- It is recommended this foundational Unit 1 is covered first as it outlines all the course content covered in more detail in the remaining 20 Units. These subsequent specialist units are designed to be either worked through in sequence or downloaded individually depending on time and need.

MEET SUZY DALLAS
Hello, I’m Suzy Dallas and thank you for visiting my foundation module in lighting design. You may wonder why I’m qualified to teach residential lighting design to architects and interior designers?
Having trained as an interior designer, I very quickly realised the key role good lighting plays in an interior space. I then decided to learn all I could about lighting design and partnered with an international lighting design director. We worked together on designing lighting schemes for residential and commercial interiors in the UK and Europe.
In my 15 years in the lighting business (and 25 in the interiors business), I found the same comment kept cropping up in the projects where a professional lighting designer hadn’t been hired, “My subject is already huge … I simply haven’t got time to learn about this … the electrician will have to do it…”. And “the client can do it with the electrician". Now, this is problematic because the client doesn’t know what is possible and the electrician hasn’t quoted to spend hours doing the design work.
So, I will teach you the core foundational information you need to know in an interesting multi media format. No tests or exams. Just the basic information which can then be developed and built on through downloading our additional specialist modules.
